This week felt like a fresh start as the entire Dakpandirect project was rebuilt under a new Shopify account. It was truly satisfying that, once Thomas and the team decided the old shop was no longer tenable, I independently migrated the “minimum order quantity” and “order multiple of” functionality into a custom metafield. Seeing all quantities flow smoothly into the cart confirmed that my approach using a Python script and close collaboration with Thomas was exactly right. That moment gave me a huge energy boost, especially knowing it made a tangible difference for colleagues and users.
At the same time, I realized I had checked too late whether we could purchase the new theme. As a result, the coding work stalled just when momentum was building, which was quite frustrating. Technical prerequisites like theme licenses and SSL certificates can really get in the way. To prevent this bottleneck, I’ll now ensure that essential purchases and configurations are secured before diving into implementation.
Midweek, the return-to-campus day at Avans sparked new ideas. Catching up with fellow students and instructors provided valuable tips on communication and project management, reminding me that I don’t have to figure everything out alone. I put those insights to work immediately by designing the podcast page for TailorIT: colleagues praised its clean, functional layout, which motivated me to expand the Figma mockups for Artiteq as well. It felt great to switch gears and get creative after all the technical problem‑solving.
Of course, juggling urgent technical tasks and design assignments did throw off my schedule at times. While I was wrapping up filters for Dakpandirect, the Artiteq task popped up and shifted deadlines. Moving forward, I plan to reserve dedicated work blocks a solid block for technical implementations and a separate block for design so each can proceed uninterrupted.
In the end, I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished: a streamlined shopping experience free of old caching issues and a solid foundation for new web designs. The positive feedback on my layouts and their impact on user experience give me confidence. Armed with lessons on proactive planning and clear prioritization, I look forward to working even more smoothly and effectively in the coming weeks.
